In the last few years, beet Juice has gained popularity for good reasons. It has potential health benefits that cannot be ignored. Aside from the fact that beets contain a lot of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they have been shown to reduce blood pressure and increase exercise performance. A recent study also revealed that drinking beet juice before exercising increase brain connectivity in older adults.
The results of the study demonstrated that the brain connectivity seen among the older adults who drank beet juice before exercising was comparable to the connectivity seen in younger adults.
Researchers attribute these benefits to the high nitrate content in beets. When consumed, nitrates are converted into a compound — nitric oxide — which has been shown to lower blood pressure and increase blood flow to the brain improving cognitive and motor functions.
While further research is required to replicate the results, the researchers believe that their study suggests that what we eat in later life may play an important role in brain health and mobility.
